Fort Spokane/Lake Roosevelt Camping

We went camping this week at Fort Spokane on Lake Roosevelt. Unfortunately the water was too low at the lake to do any kayaking, swimming or fishing in the area we were at. But there were plenty of other things for us to do and see. . .I don't think we had any free time to think about not being able to swim, fish or go on the kayak. I didn't have my camera with me most of the time so there are not many pictures.

This is Lake Roosevelt, right by where we camped.

This is a picture of Fort Spokane. It was a fort during the time of the Indians and the white settlers, then it became an Indian boarding house and then an Indian sanitarium. It was a fascinating museum and place to visit.

Having a picnic in at the park on a beautiful sunny day! Don't get many of those in western Washington!

This sidewalk is the only thing left of a town called Old Kettle Falls that was washed away by a flood. . .Andrew loves visiting stuff like this.

Car ride home. . .Toby being used as a pillow. :)

Kayaking

Andrew is in charge of the Venture Scouts in our ward and also the High Adventure activity. So he is having all the boys make their own kayaks and then in August they are going to go on a 3 or 4 day kayak trip on Lake Roosevelt in eastern Washington.

Here is what Andrew's 12 foot kayak looks like that he made. It is made completely from plywood and canvas and is collapsible. . .and as you can see it actually works!! I have been very impressed!

The kids LOVE riding on in with dad! Today they both decided to hope on an end and get a ride.

Toby the Pillow Pet

You would think the way my kids lay on our dog Toby that he was more of a pillow or stuffed animal than a real dog. The best thing about Toby is he takes the kids abuse so well and even seems to enjoy it, because he knows they are just playing with him.

A while ago I came out of my room and found Anna like this. . . .

I went back in my room to shower and get dressed and when I came out I found Anna like this. . . .

She loves to read! :)

Pacific Science Center

After checking out the Star Wars exhibit we went around the kid area of the Pacific Science Center.

The dinosaur part was Anna's favorite. This is how Anna would fit in a dino's footprint.

They have this area where the kids could reach in and touch sea anemone, star fish and other small tidepool creatures.

This thing you would spin around and around and the green stuff inside would turn into different designs. The kids were mesmerized by this and spent a good 15 minutes with it.

My personal favorite part of the Pacific Science Center is the butterfly house. It is a large room with hundreds of butterflies that you can walk around with. It is beautiful!

Star Wars

There was a Star Wars exhibit at the Pacific Science Center in May. . .so we had to go for Brent's sake. He was pretty excited and impressed with what they had.


They even had a little something that Anna could get excited about.


They also had this vehicle that kids could get on and go in circles as is hovered on air. Anna loved it. . .Brent wasn't so sure about it.

Brent's Zoo Field Trip

Back in April Brent went on a 1st grade field trip to the zoo and I am lucky enough that Brent wanted me to come with him and chaperone. . .I know he will not always want his mom with him so I am completely enjoying the moment now!

I was assigned 3 boys to keep an eye on and they truly were a bunch of monkeys! :) (the fun cute kind like you see below)









There were actually animals at the zoo. . .the boys justed wanted their picture taken with the statues and other objects at the zoo. It was soooo much fun and I can't wait to go with Brent on his next field trip!
